the district conventions i went to always had signs in the restrooms asking people to only take one paper towel.
i've heard other people mention this too.
is this typical at conventions?
I remember this stupid rule!!! I don't think it was enforced by the papertowel police. Atleast, I never saw that it was. However---the papering of the mirror ticked me off so bad. My contact lens was killing me one time and I went to take it out and there was that stupid brown paper. I tore it down and just shook my head. Nobody said a word. This practice stopped (mid 80's?)

Pandora was blamed for opening the box that held all the earth's problems---I think it was her cat. I love cats and mine can open any cupboard, door, or any stupid box. I opened Pandora's box when I finally realized that I was following a religion that had man-made rules rather than God's.

The words spoken by Jesus on The Sermon on the Mount are very beautiful. It's funny how a group of men can interpret these verses into a rule book on how to treat ones in the congregation. If only they would practice what was spoken Jesus----oh that's right there wouldn't be any fear or control.

the society seems to make a huge thing about reading the bible daily, and yet they have a problem when people do so without the 'aids' - i.e the publications.
so is bible reading on its own frowned upon?
i never did it anyway, it was boring.
A couple of weeks ago my family and I were shopping and on a bench in front of a store was the Watctower Mag. On the cover was the title "Can you trust the Bible?"---or something to that effect. My son looked at it and said "I guess we can't, but be sure and read this magazine and it will tell you all you need". Out of the mouths of babes!! It made me chuckle.

when i was a hardcore jw, i closed my eyes and paid attention to the prayer, because i believed we were communicating with god.
what a privilege!
now, it has been some time since i closed my eyes when the jws pray.
I don't think there is a rule on this. (shocking I know) Our family just bowed our heads. I always got a little dizzy when I closed my eyes--I always was wearing high heels. Also, when my kids were smaller there was no way I could close my eyes; they would have run off or put something in their mouths!!!

Why would this sister send such an email to you? It is not encouraging in the least. I realize that there is another meaning here but REALLY. Most of us have given up many things for this organization willingly and recieved nothing. Oh--I have a strand of real pearls and they were from my hubby not God!!!

Breaking away--you said that perfectly. A strange thing happened about a month ago. A relative (elder) let it slip that he knew the names of the new releases from the convention. He said it was on the internet... The official JW site does not release this info out before the conventions begin. Makes me wonder what he is up to.

i haven't seen one of these horrendous and frightening dramas since probably 1972. but it sounds like they have only gotten worse.
i don't know whether to watch it on youtube or not.
